Session description
The US offshore wind sector is booming with new wind farms to be installed. However, the Jones Act hinders the transport of turbine components to the installation sites, as this law does not allow for foreign installation vessels to load the wind turbine components in US ports. Since there currently are no American built, owned, and manned installation vessels available, other transport and installation alternatives are sought. Therefore, a new and innovative cost-effective Jones-Act compliant concept applying conventional feeder barges and specially developed quick connectors, motion compensating devices, quick release clamps and other lifting equipment has been designed.
