Biography

Prof. Thorsten Schneiders has been working in various fields of the energy sector since almost 20 years. Currently he is professor for energy storage at the Cologne Institute for Renewable Energy at the University of Applied Science in Cologne. He studied mechanical engineering in Bochum and Sheffield as well as business administration in Dortmund. After his studies he spent 11 years at E.ON among others as the head of energy policy. His research and academic teaching cover topics like wind energy, sector coupling and integrated energy systems combining renewable energy, energy storage and sector coupling. He is also Chair of the "Virtual Institute Smart Energy", an interdisciplinary research consortium developing solutions in the field of smart technologies and virtual power plants for more efficient and innovative energy systems.
