Navantia-Windar have been awarded by Ailes Marines, a company fully owned by Iberdrola, as the exclusive manufacturer of the construction of 62 three-legged jackets, destined for the wind turbines of the St. Brieuc wind farm (France) with an extension of 75 km2 and an electricity generation capacity of up to 496 MW.

This contract is the most important signed by Navantia-Windar in the offshore wind energy market that strengthens its world position as part of the marine renewable energies supply chain This contract´s scope has been divided among Spain and France.

JVNW has rented an area at Brest Polder (Britany, France) where it has been opened a manufacturing plant, where jacket components, such as stab-ins, nodes and components of the jackets lattice structures, will be manufactured, as part of local content commitments.

The components fabricated in the port of Brest are units for the upper and lower parts of these foundations – 714 nodes, 186 stabbings, 306 bracings, 102 upper legs, and 102 lower legs. In total, more than 35,000 steel tons will be assembled at the Navantia-Windar’s workshops and at its Breton subcontractors’ factories in Brittany. Seventeen companies have already started to operate at Navantia-Windar’s site located at the new EMR terminal in Brest.

The contract, worth €350 million, is the largest offshore wind contract in Navantia’s offshore wind history and will help create over 1.000 direct and indirect jobs in Spain and 250 FTEs jobs creation along next two years in France.

This project has a strong component of Transfer of Knowledge between Spain and France, seeking a leading position for future opportunities in offshore wind in the North of France and strengthening the local French supply chain developed for being positioned in the next tenders process, from French government in particular. It implies, therefore, the loyalty as a client of Iberdrola and the consolidation of Navantia-Windar in this market, improving even more the opportunities in European wind farms for being a prefered bidder for foundations and substations fabrication.
