Wind energy is hiring. Here’s how to get a job in it

Europe’s wind industry will create over 100,000 new positions between now and 2030. Meanwhile, 15% of EU citizens under 25 are unemployed. WindEurope today launched its Careers Hub – a single-entry point for careers in wind energy. The Careers Hub helps students, jobseekers and workers from other sectors explore where they fit in the wind industry. They can explore job profiles and career paths, find training opportunities and contact employers – all in one place.
Wind is the one clean technology that Europe makes from start to finish. Project development, supply chain, manufacturing, installation, operation and recycling – all of it happens in Europe. More than 250 European factories produce wind turbines and related equipment. And over the last four years, the industry invested over €17bn in new or expanded factories, ports and vessels.
This growth is creating jobs – despite the challenging economic environment in Europe. The wind industry is set to create more than 100,000 additional jobs between now and 2030. Staffing these positions with skilled talent will not be easy.
Meanwhile, about 1 in 7 European jobseekers aged 15-24 is unemployed, according to Eurostat. The wind industry needs this talent fast. Skills shortages are already visible. Europe needs 7,000 blade technicians, 6,500 field engineers and 5,000 pre-assembly technicians before 2030.
The Careers Hub tackles a simple problem. Many people do not know where they fit in wind energy, or how to get started. Students, jobseekers, young people not in education, employment or training, and workers from other sectors often do not see wind as an option.
In creating its Careers Hub, WindEurope has mapped job profiles. There’s a role for every interest and skill set: from technical roles, such as welders, technicians and engineers to data specialists, project managers, lawyers, finance experts, communicators, and supply chain professionals. Users can take a careers quiz to find the roles that match their interests and skills.
The WindEurope Careers Hub brings careers, training, employers and industry insights together in one place. Users can learn what specific jobs involve and which qualifications they require. They can follow career pathways across the value chain and explore education, graduate, internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
