Interview with Alejandro Cabrera, CEO of Green Eagle Solutions
Can you tell our readers a little about Green Eagle Solutions?
Green Eagle Solutions is an independent SCADA solutions provider with more than seven years’ background in the wind energy sector. We are a Spanish company with offices in Madrid and Seville, from which we provide software solutions worldwide.
For the last seven years, we have developed our own SCADA technology called CompactSCADA®. This robust technology and our strong expertise developing, maintaining and retrofitting wind energy SCADA systems, allows us to provide customised solutions to our clients.
Green Eagle Solutions brings three different business areas to the wind energy sector: OEM SCADA Retrofit, Maintenance, and 24/7 support service; Monitoring and control SCADA platforms(1st and 2nd level) and CompactSCADA® Smart Energy Control Center.
In this way, we help many IPPs, ISPs or Asset Managers in terms of wind assets monitoring, data gathering and remote control. Currently, we are proud to work with many of the key players in the sector such as Vestas, Acciona, Innogy and EDPR.
What are the most exciting developments you have seen in the wind industry?
In recent years, we have seen the unstoppable trend of LCOE reduction in renewable energy projects worldwide, moving from public subsidy schemes to competitive auctions and the recent trend of bilateral private PPA agreements.
This amazing and challenging evolution in the wind energy sector has obligated different actors like OEMs, IPPs, EPCs, and ISPs to adjust their work procedures in looking for the most efficient process.
Green Eagle Solutions has helped many of its clients in this path, developing and implementing customised software solutions of monitor and control which enable wind farm owners and operators to increase the profitability of their wind farms.
What changes would you like to see in the wind industry?
As an IT company, we believe in technology, and how it could help the industry to grow more efficient in terms of facility operations, increasing the return of investments in projects.
Artificial Intelligence has enormous potential to help the wind industry reach higher rates of operations efficiency. In fact, smart remote wind farm operations in control centres are already up and running using CompactSCADA® Smart Energy Control Center.
Since more than 80% of transactions in the stocks market are ordered automatically by algorithms based in AI, we would like to see how, gradually, this kind of tool becomes a standard in the wind industry.
Going forward, what role do you see your organisation playing in the future development of wind energy?
Our goal is to become a worldwide leader in the field of wind energy SCADA solutions, for both monitoring and control functionalities. We have the knowledge, we have developed the technology, and we are confident about how our solutions can help wind farm owners and operators to make the most of their wind farms. We believe that digitalisation will transform the way of operating wind farms, creating data value and enabling the implementation of new operations strategies such as lifetime extension, operations based on spot market or hybrid wind-solar-storage facilities operations management.
How has WindEurope membership benefited your organisation?
Green Eagle Solutions became a member of WindEurope almost two years ago, when we started our internationalisation process.
Since then, we have attended several events organised by WindEurope, setting up plenty of new leads, as well as getting a better understanding of the particularities of the different European wind energy markets.
Currently, we are an international company, and we are working countries such as Ireland, France, the UK, Turkey, Italy and Indonesia. Without any doubt, becoming a WindEurope member has helped us to through that process.
If we look ten years ahead, what do you hope to have achieved?
I hope to see Green Eagle Solutions as one of the leading software companies in the wind energy sector, helping clients worldwide to monitor and perform smart control of their renewable assets.
I also would like to see a greener world where renewable energies become the primary power source, and electric mobility becomes the norm.
We believe that the wind energy sector has a key role to perform in this process, being able to integrate storage technologies, increase its operations flexibility and go further in terms of power grids support.
