The Port of Esbjerg covers 4.5 million square meters and is home to approx. 200 companies employing 8,000-10,000 persons. In 2023, the Port handled 4.5 million tonnes of cargo and approx. 6,000 ship calls. The Port of Esbjerg is the main hub for the Danish offshore industry and is part of “Energy Metropolis Esbjerg”. Today, the Port is Europe’s leading port regarding the handling of offshore wind turbines. As a matter of fact, 4 GW out of 5 GW offshore wind turbines installed in Europe have been pre-assembled, tested and shipped from the Port of Esbjerg. In addition, the Port of Esbjerg is the base port for the Danish oil & gas industry as well as all parts of the industry’s value chain, including such activities as consultancy, design, production, installation, air transport, service/maintenance and rig repair. Furthermore, RoRo transport has always been a core activity for the Port of Esbjerg, and measured in freight volume, the Port is the market leader within RoRo transport in Denmark. With six regular RoRo liner services to 25 cities around Europe, the Port plays a vital role in the intermodal infrastructure connecting Denmark with the UK, the Western part of continental Europe as well as the Nordic countries.
