European policymakers and educators experience wind energy education in action in Copenhagen

Would you rather hear about a successful education programme, or see it with your own eyes?
That is exactly what 36 policymakers and education stakeholders from across Europe did during a delegation visit to Copenhagen organised by WindEurope together with Copenhagen Capacity, Green Power Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen.
The group visited ENERGI & VAND – Greater Copenhagen Living Lab, a unique education centre built on a 25-year partnership between the City of Copenhagen and its utility company. The visit showcased how collaboration between schools, industry and local authorities can bring wind energy education into classrooms.
Bringing wind energy into the classroom
A highlight of the visit was seeing WindEurope’s wind energy education modules adapted and integrated into the Danish curriculum through a Makerspace approach.
Students aged 10-12 learn about wind energy not by reading about it, but by building, testing and improving their own wind turbine blade designs. The activities combine science, technology, engineering and mathematics with creativity, teamwork and hands-on experimentation.
Participants had the opportunity to observe the activities in practice and exchange views with educators on how similar approaches could be introduced elsewhere in Europe.
Inspiring the next generation
Early exposure to STEM plays an important role in shaping future educational and career choices. By connecting classroom learning with real-world applications, wind energy offers an engaging way to introduce young people to science, technology and engineering.
The visit demonstrated how partnerships between education and industry can help make STEM subjects more relevant, practical and inspiring for students.
Building skills for the green transition
As Europe continues its energy transition, the need for skilled workers is growing across the wind sector.
Through initiatives like this delegation visit, WindEurope works with educators, policymakers and industry partners to promote innovative approaches to STEM education and help inspire the next generation of engineers, technicians and problem-solvers.
