Van Oord
2020 has been a very special year for Van Oord Offshore Wind in which we have shown our flexibility and perseverance in these extraordinary times. We worked on and completed offshore wind farm projects that deliver renewable energy to over 2.5 million households.
- As Balance of Plant contractor and shareholder in the Blauwwind consortium, Van Oord is involved in Borssele III & IV, one of the largest offshore Dutch wind farms. In November Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus completed the installation of the 77 MHI Vestas V164 -9.5 MW turbines.
- Working in The Two Towers consortium with Investri Offshore and Green Giraffe offers a unique opportunity to demonstrate advanced technologies at Borssele Wind Farm Site V. On 25 April, the Slip Joint foundation was successfully installed offshore. This new connection allows the monopile and transition piece to be split into 2 sections, enabling transport and installation of bigger foundations on existing vessels while reducing installation times and maintenance costs.
- In the Zuiderzeewind consortium with Siemens Gamesa, Van Oord was contracted to design, produce and install the foundations and cables and deliver the installation materials for 89 wind turbines, each with 4.3 MW capacity, at Windpark Fryslân. The last foundation has been installed in December.
- Iberdrola’s selected Van Oord for the transport and installation of 62 jacket foundations and the foundations piles for the offshore substation of the Saint Brieuc project in France. The preparations are in full swing for starting the pinpile instllation campaign in April / May 2021.
- Using heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen, we completed the Transport & Installation (T&I) contract for client Vattenfall to install 72 monopiles and transition pieces at Kriegers Flak, Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, with a production capacity of just over 600 MW.
- The Hollandse Kust Zuid project for client TenneT involves the installation and burying of the export cables for the 2 Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farms up to 5 metres below the seabed of the shipping lane. Our Deep Dig-It trencher successfully performed its task and crossed the busy shipping route Rotterdam Maasmond. This remote-controlled trench jetting and cutting system means that Van Oord can offer its clients in offshore wind construction a complete service package, including cable burial.
- We continued our activities in the offshore wind maintenance and repair market, by utilizing our jack-up vessel MPI Resolution for works at various offshore wind farms.
For the years ahead, we look forward to create new opportunities and to lead the way in the energy transition by constructing offshore wind projects such as Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm, the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm in the United Kingdom and the cable installation at Greater Changhua offshore wind farm in Taiwan. With the order of a new green cable-laying vessel we show our drive to continuously reinforcing our market position by investing in state-of-the-art sustainable technology.
