Port of Bilbao has been founded by the European Commission with €50M for their Docks Electrification Project (BilbOPS) under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) mechanism. The project will deploy onshore power supply (OPS) as from 2025, allowing ships to connect to the electricity grid and turning off their auxiliary diesel engines. This will reduce vibrations and noise, and greenhouse gases by 40%. The project also includes generation of renewables (PV, wave and wind). And the new Petronor plant will produce synthetic fuels from green hydrogen.
