Energy markets are in transition structurally, geographically and in terms of regulation. These changes represent both challenges and opportunities for wind energy. Making the energy transition work to the benefit of citizens, businesses and governments requires actions today from policy makers and industry.

In 2000, wind energy was a niche sector representing only 2% of all power generation capacity installed in Europe.

By the end of 2015, wind energy had a 15% share of the EU's installed power generation capacity. At the end of June 2016, there is at least 146 GW of wind energy capacity installed in the EU.

Wind has added more capacity than any other technology over the last 11 years.
