We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO185: Assessment of turbulence intensity estimates from floating lidar systems
Felix Kelberlau, Floating Lidar Product Lead, Fugro
Abstract
Measuring turbulence intensity (TI) from floating lidar systems (FLS) is challenging because platform motion introduces an error. The motion-compensation processing of the Fugro SEAWATCH Wind LiDAR Buoy (SWLB) removes this error entirely. This work is aiming to validate the motion-compensation methodology by applying the CFARS TI benchmarking scheme to measurement data from a pre-deployment offshore validation trial. The results show that the averaged mean bias error is 0.2%, the representative TI error is as low as 0.0%, and the root mean square error is 2.3%. These values demonstrate that the SWLB is able to measure TI as accurately as a fixed lidar system of the same type. Based on an analysis of the results, we suggest general acceptance criteria for the assessment of motion-compensation methodologies which are currently missing in literature and sought after in FLS industry.
