We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO051: Sustainability potential of hybrid testing methods of critical components in wind turbines
Wai Chung Lam, Researcher, VITO
Abstract
Future wind turbines require flexible and economically affordable product development processes to obtain reliable and validated new concepts for larger wind turbines. Within the Horizon 2020 project INNTERESTING (Innovative Future-Proof Testing Methods for Reliable Critical Components in Wind Turbines), novel hybrid testing methods and breakthrough design tools to assess the reliability of larger critical wind turbine components without the need of building expensive larger test benches in the future are developed. Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) has been applied to identify improvement options regarding the environmental, economic, and socio-economic performance of the case studies and hybrid testing methods. Moreover, the LCSA shows the sustainability potential of the developed solutions in comparison to their business-as-usual (BAU) counterparts. This abstract presents the preliminary LCSA results of the developed hybrid testing methods for pitch bearing and gearbox components with respect to financial costs and impacts to the society and environment.
