PO016: Gaussian process surrogate of bolted flange connection finite-element model for wind turbine monopile

Pedro Ochôa, Scientist, TNO - Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research

Abstract

This study concerns the development of capabilities for surrogation of detailed finite-element (FE) models of bolted flange connections as means to create bolt stress models that are accurate but computationally light. Such surrogate models can then be used to estimate system uncertainties for applications related to wind turbine monopile maintenance. After validating the FE model with data from experiments on an equivalent bolted flange connection specimen, a surrogate model was trained by employing Gaussian process regression and adaptive sampling.
