Mission & vision

Vision, mission and our core principles

Vision

That wind energy is the driving force of Europe’s energy transition as its no. 1 source of electricity. That it grows in line with the huge ambitions the EU and national Governments have set for it. That it delivers affordable and secure energy and wider social and economic benefits for Europe’s citizens, including through the strengthening of Europe’s extensive wind energy value chain.

Mission

To ensure Governments in Europe support the expansion of wind energy and of the infrastructure needed for it – and that they support the strengthening of Europe’s wind energy industry. To ensure economic actors and wider society support the expansion of wind and that wind serves their interests.

What we do

We are the voice of wind energy in Europe. We engage the EU Institutions, Governments and other public authorities to try to ensure their ambitions, policies and regulations help drive the growth of wind. We engage others involved in shaping public policy to try to ensure they support this too.

We engage other stakeholders and the general public about the benefits wind to maximise wider societal support for wind.

We support those involved in producing wind energy by trying to ensure that:

  • Public policy and market design supports the business case for new investments and the deployment of the relevant technologies;
  • Our members have the profile, visibility and networking opportunities they need to be successful in the wind energy value chain;
  • The energy they produce can get to energy consumers, and that wind contributes to the stability and flexibility of the energy system;
  • There is maximum possible demand for wind energy across the economy and that those looking to consume wind energy can adequately source it;
  • All those involved in wind energy or interested in it have all the necessary data and analysis available to inform their thinking and decision-making.

What we believe – our core principles

  1. Europe must achieve climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest.
  2. Wind energy will be at the core of a home-grown, resilient, cost-efficient and climate neutral energy system.
  3. A successful and just energy transition requires us to ensure wind energy is environmentally sustainable, that we engage communities and activate the local economy, and strive for happy coexistence with other societal interests.
  4. Direct electrification is the most cost-effective and energy efficient way to decarbonise the bulk of our economy – anything that can be electrified should be electrified.
  5. Europe should prioritise renewable hydrogen to decarbonise hard-to-abate end-uses e.g., parts of steel and cement and some heavy-duty transport.
  6. Electricity grids are the backbone of a climate-neutral energy system. Their expansion is a priority.
  7. Members must have significant wind-related operations based in Europe.
