WindEurope recommendation for a wind energy data classification scheme
This classification scheme is designed to facilitate the implementation of EU legislative frameworks, including the EU Data Act (EU 2023/2854) and the European Wind Power Action Plan. It establishes a structured approach to handling data, enhancing security, promoting collaboration, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The framework addresses challenges such as the lack of harmonized data standards, concerns over intellectual property, and inefficient data sharing, which hinder innovation and optimization in the wind energy sector.
The classification introduces a four-tier system—Critical Data, Personal Data, Confidential Data, and Public Data—to strengthen security, improve data sharing, and ensure compliance across the wind energy sector.
