Iberdrola
Iberdrola group began investing in the energy transition 20 years ago and is now implementing an unprecedented 75-billion-euro investment plan by 2025 to maintain its position at the forefront of the energy revolution facing the world’s leading economies while consolidating its business model, which is based on more renewable energies, more grids, more storage and more smart solutions for customers.
To deliver this plan, Iberdrola starts from a unique position, with one of the industry’s largest renewable energy project pipelines: a total of 70.5 GW across Spain, US, UK, Brazil, Mexico, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Poland and Sweden, with key technologies: 20.2 GW offshore wind, 16.3 GW onshore wind and 30.7 GW solar photovoltaic. Currently, the company is advancing installation of 7 GW and will have up to 11 GW under construction in 2025.
Iberdrola group is fully committed to a Green Recovery. Despite the COVID-19 situation, in 2020 we have been able to overcome supply chain challenges to keep expanding our geographical footprint while creating new growth platforms.
- Iberdrola has completed ten corporate transactions within the past 12 months that reinforce its commitment to renewable generation.
- The company begun operating its largest wind farm built in Spain since 2012: the Cavar complex in Navarre is the first major wind farm commissioned in Spain since the health crisis with an installed capacity of 111 MW.
- Iberdrola boosted wind energy in Greece with the development of three new projects. More than 98 MW were awarded in the auction of wind capacity.
- Iberdrola also commissioned its largest offshore wind farm and one of the world’s largest of its kind: the 714-MW East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm in the British North Sea. Despite the complex environment generated by the Covid-19 pandemic the project was on schedule. Around 20% of the wind turbine installation was carried out during the lockdown period in the United Kingdom and specific health protocols were implemented.
- Iberdrola is now working on the East Anglia HUB, which is the group’s largest offshore wind complex worldwide and comprises three projects with a joint capacity of 3,100 MW.
- A decisive step towards solar energy was taken with the commissioning of the Núñez de Balboa photovoltaic plant in Badajoz, currently Europe’s largest PV facility. The plant, with an installed capacity of 500 MWp (391 MW of maximum grid connection capacity), will supply clean energy to 250,000 people.
