Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO254: A real-world data-driven lifetime assessment of a WTG support structure

Koen Robbelein, Researcher | PhD candidate, Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Abstract

While the offshore wind farms (OWF) in Europe are in the early phases of their design lifetime, the offshore wind industry is increasing its focus on the decisions to take beyond the certified operational period to decommission, repower or extend the lifetime of the assets. The present study aims to advance the state-of-the-art practices by development of a data-driven lifetime assessment methodology. This study relies on SHM and SCADA data acquired over a 5+-year-long timespan to perform a data-driven lifetime assessment of an instrumented foundation. The lifetime assessment consists of a desktop study of the asset documentation, data-analysis to verify environmental and operational conditions, SLS, NFA and the data-driven fatigue assessment. The abstract includes a description of the principles of the data-driven fatigue assessment and the results indicating the potential lifetime extension period based on a study of the most critical welds. The results of the other assessed welds will be presented in the paper, as the validation studies of the fatigue assessment principles. The desktop study and the OEC, SLS, NFA assessments are summarized in the abstract and will be further described in the paper. In view of bringing the end-of-life discussions as a step forward, we believe the present study is of added value to the industry.
