PO224: Fibre based long interconnector monitoring: the Nemo Link story

Abstract

Offshore wind requires long inter-connectors to either transfer energy from production site to mainland or to interconnect network at the international scales. Nemolink, a 142k long cable, is one of them and link Belgium to the UK. It is permanantly monitored using a Distributed Acoustic System (DAS) featuring full length coverage. A temporary Distributed Temperature System (DTS) also featuring full distance monitoring was evaluated. DAS and DTS were found useful and important tools for the inter-connector management and safe operation.
