Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO202: Torsional Deformations of an Offshore Wind Turbine Rotor Blade

Anna Wegner, Group Manager, Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES)

Abstract

In this study torsional moments acting on a large rotor blade were investigated. The torsional moment was divided into its components due to centrifugal forces, restoring moment, torsional moment due to gravity and lift forces, The individual components were calculated and compared with the measured torsional moment under different operating conditions of the wind turbine. This approach enables to investigate which external factors (e.g. wind speed) and internal factors (e.g. pitch angle, azimuth angle, rotor speed) the torsional deformation is affected. Different operating conditions were investigated (trundling, start-up, operating conditions with and without pitching). From this the contribution of the individual torsional moments could be quantified.
