We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO199: High-performance, synthetic grease for offshore applications
Rihard Pasaribu, Team Leader PAS EMEA, Shell
Abstract
Highly loaded large size and slewing bearings are often used as part of offshore structures and wind turbines to provide (slow, often reciprocating) rotary motions. These bearings require a grease with excellent (fretting) corrosion and fretting wear performance to ensure efficient and reliable operations in wet, corrosive, and cold temperature environment. This paper will discuss the performance of the newly developed synthetic grease compared to commercially available greases for the same application at corrosive environment (using modified riffle test setup) and cold temperature (down to -40oC). An in-depth surface analysis and grease conditions before and after testing suggest a mechanism that lead to the superior performance observed int eh testing. Further, the successful application of this grease with good field performance in wind turbine blade bearings and LNG loading arms applications are the testament of the superior performance of Shell Gadus S5 V110 KP, synthetic grease for offshore applications.
