We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO170: Evaluation of modeled data for wind resource assessment
Cédric Eneau, Resource & Yield R&D theme lead, TotalEnergies OneTech
Abstract
Energy yield assessment is a crucial step in the development phase of a wind farm, onshore or offshore. It is one of the major inputs for the final investment decision and to monitor the performance of the asset. Such assessment relies on the use of modeled data at several steps: as a substitute to onsite measurement in case of preliminary yield assessment, as a reference for data reconstruction or as a primary source for long-term correction. Several sources of modeled data are publicly available: global reanalysis data such as ERA5, MERRA-2, regional reanalysis such as NORA3 and commercial mesoscale data. The range of data is such that it is often difficult to identify which source is more relevant to use since it might be a site-specific choice and might sometimes incur a cost. In the present study, 15 different datasets from 7 sources/providers have been compared to 34 onsite measurements in different environments: offshore, complex onshore terrain, coastal areas, forested areas, flat terrain mainly located in Europe.
