We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO135: From a 10,000 ft view: How industry benchmarking enables improved project performance
Graham More, Principle Renewable Analyst, Clir Renewables
Abstract
With vast quantities of renewable energy data, projects have the potential to meet and exceed targets by leveraging strategic decision-making. Unfortunately, due to a lack of time and understanding, data remains largely untapped, with key assumptions across the project lifecycle being made based on inferences and limited data. A flood of investment into renewables is contributing to overly optimistic pre-construction assumptions, yet projects are missing budgets once in operation. To combat this, the industry needs to tap into the data that exists to improve performance — and learn to share strategies that work. Industry benchmarking data enables owners to predict the impact of technical factors on the performance of future projects, understand how losses are impacting revenue and identify areas of risk that could be mitigated. With 200 GW of benchmarking data and over 100 benchmarked energy yield assessments, Clir has a robust dataset with which to analyze wind farm performance and losses against peers across the globe at a granular level. This allows owners and investors to proactively find strategies to optimize production, improving the accuracy of the P50 and P90 values. Industry data, coupled with expertise, can help to identify areas of improvement and provide guidance on how to optimize assets. This presentation will showcase how Clir is using the largest wind project dataset to benchmark loss production factors and risks, improving the accuracy of energy yield assessments and, in turn, the financial performance of wind projects.
