Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO132: A blueprint for the new energy highways of the North Sea bringing massive amounts of green power to European shores

Martijn Douwes, Technical advisor, Gasunie

Abstract

Increasing national and European ambitions for offshore wind capacities and security of supply are accompanied by the challenge of integrating vast amounts of renewable energy in the energy system. The nine North Sea Energy Cooperation (NSEC) countries signed a joint declaration to develop 260 GW offshore wind by 2050. 150 GW will be developed in Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, as per the 2022 Esbjerg Declaration. Large-scale integration of offshore wind in the European energy system requires an unprecedented level of international coordination and innovative technological and system solutions. The North Sea Wind Power Hub (NSWPH) consortium consists of three TSOs: Energinet, Gasunie, and TenneT. The NSWPH project represents a distributed hub concept, with energy hubs in Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany. The functions of the hubs are to collect offshore wind energy, to connect countries, and to convert offshore wind to hydrogen; thereby establishing an integrated, meshed offshore grid. One of the key challenges of the hub-and-spoke project is how to identify, optimise, and connect multiple energy corridors across the North Sea.
