We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO128: Unlocking green hydrogen from floating wind
Steven Freeman, Director, Environmental Resources Management (ERM)
Abstract
Green hydrogen powered by onshore and offshore wind has emerged a key part of the vision for a low-carbon transition. When paired with offshore wind, for example, the business case for hydrogen continues to be bolstered as already decreasing costs are expected to fall further as this powerful sector grows to scale. This combination has the potential to create high value jobs, a significant proportion which are likely to be in remote, rural/coastal communities located close to offshore wind resources. However, coupling these two emerging technologies introduces new and unique challenges, from the technological challenge of introducing electrolysers to complex offshore platforms and harsh marine environments, the supply chain challenge of rapidly integrating and industrialising what are today disparate industries, meeting the offtaker demand challenges and finally the regulatory challenges of moving away from the electrical framework that has defined offshore wind until today. Through detailed market analysis, this session will provide a roadmap to navigate the myriad challenges; ask the critical questions needed for green hydrogen; and spell out why co-development of green hydrogen and offshore wind is a natural fit.
