Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO113: Owners' Engineering in next generation of renewable power plants with multiple hybridization levels: wind / solar / BESS / H2
Ignacio Romero-Sanz, Global Technical Practice Lead - Wind Engineering, BUREAU VERITAS
Abstract
Renewable energy sector is starting to give attention to the hybridization of different renewable generation and energy storage technologies (Wind / Solar / BESS), either for electrical grid supply or for green hydrogen generation or for both. Ultimate objective is to provide stability and dispatchability towards a real de-carbonized energy system, but while final owners aim for the additional profitability that these technologies can bring when properly combined, the developers face the challenge to optimize from blank page and assuring the quality level with a highly volatile supply chain environment. Multidisciplinary knowledge is needed towards the right technical decisions, in combination with the right experience during all project phases, so trusted partners are typically needed during the journey. Like Bureau Veritas, which has extensive background from Clients around the world for Owner's Engineer services. We are presenting in this paper the different technical steps to apply for a successful investment in a hybrid power plant. Topics of consideration for this effort have included the coordination among the different phases of the development such as the Feasibility Studies, Design (from FEED to detail) , Procurement and Construction until COD (Commercial Operation Date). Particular attention is given on listing the different risks faced in the aforementioned phases and their respective mitigation techniques. The adoption of these technical assessments will support the renewable energy community by allowing projects delivered on time and to the best standards.
