PO072: Lessons learnt from floating wind installation and O&M WindFloat Atlantic and Kincardine floating OWF

Abstract
Optimizing load-out and offshore installation in floating operations is key to floating wind developers to realize their projects and successfully deliver returns for investors. On the other hand, there is a lot of uncertainty due to limited experience in this new market and due to hydrodynamics conditions. The advantage of floating wind is to be able to perform large installation and O&M works in a port infrastructure (i.e. large component installation and replacements). There are many factors affecting assembly but also accessibility of floating wind turbines, namely environmental conditions, the onshore infrastructure, the load-out method, the floating platform type and the geometry of the substructure below and above the water line. IMDC has provided advisory services to WindFloat Atlantic floating OWF and Kincardine floating OWF which allowed to successfully assemble wind turbine generators (WTGs) on floating structures during both summer and autumn seasons. The objective of this abstract is present these lessons learnt for future optimization of installation and O&M activities in floating wind.
