Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics and provide an opportunity for delegates to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please, join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO054: MARINEWIND: accelerating investments in floating offshore wind to tackle European energy crisis

Inès Tunga, Renewables Practice Manager, Infrastructure & Engineering, Energy Systems Catapult

Abstract

To alleviate the current energy crisis and stay on track to meeting the Net Zero target, the European Commission requires unprecedented innovation across the economy; innovation not just in new technologies but in new ways of deploying existing technologies, new business models, consumer offerings, and crucially policy, regulation and market design. Offshore wind and power-to-X solutions have a major role in helping achieve this, and the floating wind is the next step in unlocking further wind resources in remote areas and deeper waters. Floating offshore wind technology (FOWT) is fast maturing with the potential to cement Europe's leadership in renewables globally. To accelerate the energy transition, a radical approach is required,” changing how we plan, permit, incentivise, connect and integrate these generations” the European Union (EU) is looking to capitalise on its vast resource and thus support floating substructures or integrated floating wind energy systems for deeper waters not only in the North Sea but also in the Mediterranean and along the Atlantic Coast. MARINEWIND, an EC-funded Coordination Action with organisations from six countries facing the North Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, aims to mitigate the impact of these deployments on local society and natural habitats as key to an integrated and sustainable renewables future. The project will enable the industry to compete by creating societal value and accelerating the investment of private and public authorities in FOWT while advancing their commercialisation and identifying critical environmental and societal support and solutions to techno-economic and regulatory barriers to their wide deployment in various European geographical areas. MARINEWIND's methodology to engage the community to support the floating wind market uptake is presented here.
