PO047: Social acceptance of renewable energy developments: empirical analysis and case studies

Abstract

This investigation provides an overview of social acceptance for renewable energy (onshore wind) projects in selected countries in Europe. The paper complements an empirical multi-country analysis with specific case studies illustrating community engagement and benefit sharing mechanisms in onshore wind projects. First, the paper shows how social acceptance levels varies across the 9 different countries. Second, case studies (from Germany, Spain, and Ireland) illustrate actual examples of community benefit schemes in onshore wind projects.
