PO032: Offshore digitalisation: bringing industry 4.0 to offshore wind farms

Abstract
Reliable, high-speed communications technologies are transforming the offshore environment, improving the day to day lives of offshore workers and operations. For years, systems like old VHF and UHF Radios Systems or a bit newer TETRA UHF Systems have formed the basis of Offshore Communication. But in order for the Offshore Industry to utilize all the benefits of new technologies emerging as a result of the newest industrial revolution, Industry 4.0 and thereby the development of IoT (Internet of Things) products, a strong and solid data network will be needed. As mobile Operators profits of the quantum of users on the network, their business cases do not support the roll-out of Mobile Systems for Offshore Installations. That is why we see more and more Offshore Developers requiring 4G or even 5G Private Networks to support their entry into using IoT Products and Solutions on their assets while at the same time, opening for a brand-new world within the O&M of their assets.
