Biography

Mariela is a Civil Engineer with an emphasis on structural engineering, specifically steel and composite construction. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral programme at the University of Coimbra, where she works developing connections for wind towers using state-of-the-art technologies. Before her doctoral studies, Mariela obtained a master's degree from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Costa Rica. She also worked as a design engineer for four years in a consultancy office in Costa Rica, focusing on the seismic performance of steel and concrete structures.
