PO267: Real-time Structural Integrity Management with Digital Twins

Abstract
Today, the offshore wind industry stands as a mature renewable energy source that, which will require competitiveness in a subsidy-free market ahead. This increases the focus on the levelized cost of energy (LCOE), which will need to be reduced. The challenges in reducing the LCOE must hence be solved, increasing the focus on innovative solutions for design, operation, and maintenance. Operators must make informed decisions for optimal performance and maintenance, while designers need a deeper grasp of the real-life behavior of offshore wind structures to be able to optimize steel usage, park layouts, load models, and more. At Vattenfall, we are addressing this by introducing cutting-edge digital twin technology to enable, among other things, real-time structural integrity management, lifetime extension, and data-driven design.
