PO262: LASSIE – Lightning Surveillance Service

Abstract
LASSIE offers major cost savings due to the early detection of potential lightning damages, ensuring the efficient use of field resources to prioritise repairs, avoiding significant cost escalation and potential catastrophic blade failure through non-detection. Paramount for prudent operators is to showcase risk control capabilities using performance statistics from their asset management efforts. In this specific project the lightning surveillance service from WPL enables full disclosure of lightning strike events, from strike registration to inspection planning and field findings. This track record with time stamps can be used to document and support a potential blade damage with performance statistics. LASSIE requires no sensors installed on site and will feed your asset management team with data and insights of which turbines to inspect. There is a direct access to lightning data specifics and IEC standard relation, enabling any asset manager to perform fleet wide lightning surveillance instantly.
