Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO233: Site-specific design loads on fixed bottom and floating offshore substructures for a conceptual design of a 15+MW wind turbine and sensitivity to design parameters

Athanasios Barlas, Senior Researcher, DTU

Abstract

The continuous market push for lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) requires wind turbines and offshore substructures to be as light and cost-effective as possible while maintaining safety, performance, and reliability requirements. The presented work is part of the ReaLCoE project (www.realcoe.eu), in which the objective is to reduce the LCoE through the development and demonstration of a highly innovative 15+ MW wind turbine that is developed across the value chain. In the project, the turbine and substructure designers and manufacturers collaborate with the research community on optimizing a conceptual design of a 15+MW offshore wind turbine. For accurate offshore substructure design loads and design optimization, it is important to perform detailed site-specific aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulations for the coupled turbine and support structure system. The presented work focuses on site-specific design loads for a conceptual model of a 15+MW offshore wind turbine and two offshore support structures (out of the four investigated in the project), a monopile and a semi-submersible floater, at two representative European offshore sites, where the sensitivity of important design conditions is also assessed.
