PO046: Empowering communities and engaging stakeholders: The significance of participation in hybrid renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPAs)

Abstract
In the pursuit of a sustainable future, renewable energy sources are destined to perform the protagonist role. In this regard, an increasing focus on harnessing renewable power through (PPAs), especially if combined with energy storage solutions, has emerged as a crucial enabler of grid stability and energy supply reliability. This paper aims to explore through a systematic literature review (SLR) the pivotal role that community engagement and stakeholder involvement play in the development and implementation of renewable energy PPAs with storage, namely hybrid PPAs. By understanding the multifaceted dimensions and benefits of fostering strong partnerships with local communities, organizations, regulatory bodies, and other relevant stakeholders, the true potential of renewable energy projects is revealed, while addressing potential challenges and concerns in a cooperative and sustainable manner. The intentions set by the author are exploring the tangible advantages of prioritizing community empowerment, such as gaining local acceptance and support, mitigating opposition, and optimizing project design to align with specific needs and preferences. Additionally, the stakeholder participation in ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks is highlighted, addressing environmental and social impacts, and fostering long-term project success and viability.
