Electrifying industrial processes

Sector coupling & electrification

When: Tuesday, 25 September 2018, 16:00 - 16:55
Where: Room: Bilbao

Session description

Energy-intensive industrial processes, such as steelmaking, the processing of non-ferrous metals, the production of chemicals and paper, or water treatment are substantial contributors to CO2 emissions in Europe. Some sectors are already partially or fully electrified, but do not run (yet) fully on decarbonised electricity. Other are still relying on fossil fuels to generate the heat they require. This session will look at how wind-generated electricity could support the decarbonisation of industrial processes, and what technology, policy and market framework is needed to achieve further decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries on a large scale.
