Biography

Chris Hansford has been working in engineering consultancy for 8 years, following a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Cambridge University. He currently works as an Engineer at DNV GL in the Renewable Energy Analytics team, focusing on operational assets. As industry experts, DNV GL acts as independent technical advisor in the sales and purchases of wind farms, and Chris often undertakes both wind turbine inspections and operational energy production assessments, giving him a wide view of the operational reliability issues being faced by the industry. Chris helped develop a Global Renewables Benchmarking Database, through collating vast amounts of operational data, in order to assist developers, owners and operators in understanding, benchmarking and predicting the performance of their wind farms. This particular study was prompted by his customers asking for technical advice on reliability expectations for future wind farms.
