Biography

Dr Tusitha Abeyasekera is a specialist in Grid compliance and converter technology - MHI-Vestas Offshore A/S, Denmark - a joint venture between Vestas Wind Systems A/S 50% and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) 50%. His responsibility covers turbine fleet ranging from 2MW to 8MW and Strategic innovation initiatives. He has overall 13 years of experience in wind industry of which 8 years in Vestas Wind Systems R&D, Denmark and was responsible for concept and design of the V164 power converter, extending the power range for offshore wind using matured low voltage power conversion technology. Dr Abeyasekera is currently leading MHI-Vestas contribution to the EU Horizon-2020 PROMOTioN project in innovative offshore wind power technologies. He also has led industry collaboration with Chalmers university on harmonic stability of large offshore wind parks connected to HVDC, and more recently on boosting of turbine performance for lower CoE wind park designs. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Newcastle University, UK.
