Biography
Dr. Spruce has been working on wind turbine research, development and design since 1987. He is currently Chief Engineer responsible for the design of the 4.8-158 wind turbine at GE Renewable Energy, and is based in London. He has a Bachelors degree in Engineering Science from the University of Durham and a doctorate in control of windfarms from the University of Oxford. He worked as a control engineer for Wind Energy Group, NEG Micon and Vestas, amongst others designing the controls of all NEG Micon and Vestas’s active stall turbines and opening a Global Research Centre. From 2014 to 2017 he was the lead engineer for the design of the V164-9.5MW wind turbine at MHI Vestas. He holds 160 patents and patents pending and is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology.Presenter
