Dr. Chris Spruce, FIET CEng
Chief Engineer, GE Renewable Energy
BiographyDr. Spruce has been working on wind turbine research, development and design since 1987. He is currently Chief Engineer responsible for the design of the 4.8-158 wind turbine at GE Renewable Energy, and is based in London. He has a Bachelors degree in Engineering Science from the University of Durham and a doctorate in control of windfarms from the University of Oxford. He worked as a control engineer for Wind Energy Group, NEG Micon and Vestas, amongst others designing the controls of all NEG Micon and Vestas’s active stall turbines and opening a Global Research Centre. From 2014 to 2017 he was the lead engineer for the design of the V164-9.5MW wind turbine at MHI Vestas. He holds 160 patents and patents pending and is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology.
