Overview
The Commission will publish the EU Maritime Industrial Strategy during the fourth quarter of this year. It aims to strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of the EU’s maritime manufacturing sector and the related value chain.
In our response to the consultation by the European Commission, we highlight the key challenges facing the maritime sector from the perspective of offshore wind industry. Specially the lack of timely investments in vessel manufacturing and port infrastructure. We also stress how permitting delays and insufficient visibility on project pipelines hinder private investment in new vessel builds. We ask the Commission to provide an investment roadmap in European shipyards for the manufacturing of vessels. Also, a bigger involvement of the European Investment Bank to de-risk these private investments.
