Winning the age of electricity with wind: How wind powers the electrotech era

When: Tuesday, 21 April 2026, 16:15 - 17:00
Where: Markets Theatre - Hall 10

Session description

This panel will unpack the key findings of the Global Wind Report 2026, exploring how wind
energy is positioned to power the emerging Electrotech era—a new phase of industrial
transformation defined by rapid electrification, expanded clean power supply, and soaring
demand from transport, heating, manufacturing, and digital infrastructure. Building on last year’s
focus on resetting the industry amid supply chain strain and fiscal pressures, the 2026 report
shifts confidently toward the opportunities ahead: wind energy as a driver of economic growth,
energy security, and global competitiveness.
Panelists will discuss how countries can shape the political and economic conditions to maximise
wind’s contribution in this new landscape. Special attention will be given to emerging markets
and developing economies—such as China, India, Brazil, Central Asia, MENA and SubSaharan
Africa—where wind power is enabling job creation, industrial development, and stronger
resilience to geopolitical and fossilfueldriven volatility.
The discussion will also reflect on progress since the COP28 global renewables tripling target,
including GWEC’s projections of more than 160 GW of annual installations in 2026 and over 1
TW added between 2025–2030—while acknowledging that deployment still lags behind the
1.5°C pathway.
Ultimately, the session will highlight the whole economy benefits of scaling wind and clean
flexibility, illustrating why the Electrotech era represents a generational opportunity for nations to
secure prosperity, stability, and longterm energy independence.
