Making Hybrids Happen

Offshore hybrids can unlock great synergies as they tap into Europe’s wind resources whilst enabling the cross-border flow and trade of electricity.
During this breakfast session, Elia Group and Ørsted will launch their new joint paper which outlines the opportunities and challenges linked to the efficient development of offshore hybrid projects (offshore wind farms directly connected to more than one market).
Elia Group and Ørsted hope that their joint paper will trigger lively discussions between industry stakeholders and decision-makers and will lead to the exploration of actionable strategies which will enable the development of hybrid projects.
During the breakfast session, they intend to:
- Explore how policy support and practical regulation can make hybrid projects a reality;
- Discuss the fair and optimal distribution of the risks and rewards associated with such projects;
- Delve into the improvement of planning and decision-making to enhance European value creation;
- Debate regional or pan-European funding paradigms.
The following representatives from Ørsted and Elia Group will take you through the joint paper’s key messages:

- Catherine Vandenborre, Elia Group ad interim CEO
After the presentation they have invited three key policy makers, to share their reflections on the topics addressed in the paper:
- Lars Aagaard, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Denmark
- Tinne Van der Straeten, Minster for Energy, Belgium
- Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Director General, DG Energy, European Commission
The event will be hosted and moderated by Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope
Breakfast is available from 08:00. Session starts exactly at 08:15 and ends at 08:55. The breakfast will be available until 09:20.
