Achieving offshore wind and biodiversity targets: opportunities and lessons learned in Europe’s seas
When: Thursday 21 March, 11:00-14:00
Where: Atrium 1
Open to: All registered participants– with additional registration here
In the Mediterranean Sea basin, offshore wind capacity and accompanying electricity grids are both in their early stages of development. But despite this, a number of projects are in the pipeline and could help to drive the region’s energy transition. Among other considerations, a sustainable transition in the Mediterranean calls for due consideration of its rich biodiversity, adopting innovative technology tailored to its unique context and engagement with diverse stakeholders.
Against this backdrop, this event will bring together the perspectives of wind developers, transmission system operators, and NGOs to discuss the complexities and key components of nature-friendly offshore wind and grid development. Drawing on lessons learned from the North and Baltic Seas, this discussion will look at challenges and opportunities for the Mediterranean Sea basin in the years ahead.
