So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO319: GWO Instructor Qualification Framework
Thomas Grønlund, Senior Training Project Manager, Global Wind Organisation (GWO)
Abstract
GWO have launched a framework and a new global standard for instructor qualification training. The purpose is three-fold: to set a standard for "what is good teaching" in GWO, to present a structured syllabus for GWO instructor courses, and to clear the path for certifying instructors amongst the 580 GWO certified training providers globally. The standard has been developed in response to the demand for recognizable instructor qualification training in the industry and has been designed in co-operation between the members of GWO and training providers. The syllabus is based on practical training experience and theoretical didactical and pedagogical insights. A broadly based project group initiated the development in 2022, and in most of 2023, the trainings have been tested by training providers in Spain, Texas, Australia, South Africa, and Denmark, and IQT trainings can now be accessed in these regions as well as in Brazil, Ireland, England, Norway, Poland and Taiwan. The IQT Standard is divided into the following three modules: 1. Instructor Qualification Training - this training is designed for aspiring instructors with no former pedagogical training 2. Instructor Qualification Crossover Training - Experienced GWO instructors with some pedagogical background will be expected to benefit greatly from this IQTX. 3. The Instructor Qualification Train-the-Trainer is designed for selected, experienced instructors with extensive andragogic and pedagogical experience who will be certified to deliver IQT and as such shape the next generation of GWO instructors. Furthermore, an alternative process to qualify instructors to teach technical courses and safety trainings is empowering the individual training providers to individually ensure that their instructors obtain the necessary technical knowledge and skills to deliver courses and trainings safely and adequately. This empowerment is closely related to possessing IQT competences. We look forward to share and discuss our definition of "Good teaching" and all that encompassets it.
