We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO313: How to extend the useful life of a wind farm by implementing new operating strategies
Enrique Martinez , Project Manager, UL Solutions
Abstract
An accurate assessment of the useful life of wind assets is essential for wind farm operators and owners to obtain an appropriate balance between maximizing their profits, optimizing their resources and minimizing risk. Thanks to the modelling of the wind resource of the wind farm as a whole, the characteristics of the wind under which it will operate and the electricity production generated can be characterized at the individual wind turbine level. In addition, it is possible to evaluate the effect that the different operating strategies of a wind farm have on the wind resource of the site. An example of this is how sectoral shutdown strategies affect the intensity of turbulence or average wind speed. Additionally, the simulation with aero-elastic models allows estimating the calculation of fatigue loads of each wind turbine considering the wind conditions of the site and according to the operating strategies implemented. In this way, a study can be carried out in which both the impact on fatigue life and the production of each wind turbine are analyzed at the same time according to the different operating strategies implemented in the wind farm. This study presents some examples of how, through the redefinition of the modes of operation of a turbine or wind farm, the relationship between the energy generated and the life consumed by each structural component can be optimized..
