PO278: Open retrofit turbine controller solutions to support successful wind turbine lifetime extension and improved performance

Abstract
Your wind projects are usually conceived to last 20 years. Once this time comes near to its end, it is time for you to decide what to do: * De-commissioning: not a scenario many would choose. * Repowering: not always possible/financially profitable. * Lifetime extension (LTE): often the right/only choice. Replacing the original controller of a wind turbine generator (WTG) with a new open retrofit controller solution (noRCS) brings uncountable new opportunities for WTG owners and service providers like you. These solutions provide improved performance and therefore financial results and full asset ownership with full independence from the WTG manufacturers (OEM), among many other benefits. All these features lead to easy and successful management of your LTE projects where your WTGs would reach ages well beyond 20 years and where self-/3rd party service is the usual. How do noRCS support LTE of WTGs? Manufacturers do not often support old WTGs and original controllers lack of all needed access permissions you would need during LTE projects. On the contrary, a noRCS enables you to unrestrictedly manage user accesses with full freedom. They also give you unrestricted access to all data and log files of the WTG, easy troubleshooting and clearance of all alarms, unrestricted access to and edition of all parameters…in short, it would be as if you are both the owner and manufacturer of the WTG. How this benefits you? You can control production and loads of each turbine to safely and better operate them for years, resulting in higher production. You will take quicker actions whenever you need it without depending on third parties. You can use alternative spare parts in your WTGs with shorter delivery times. You could instal new longer blades and control its performance.
