Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO269: Optimizing energy production - how wake steering wind farm control can be a game changer?

Cyrille Huant, Project Manager, UL Solutions

Abstract

Maximizing the energy production of wind farm is the pre-requisite for successful wind power plant operation. While many actions are undertaken at the development stage such as: installing high quality on-site measurements, optimizing the wind farm layout, selecting the most relevant turbine technology for the site conditions, there are also several initiatives that can support this after commissioning. One of them is to focus on the wake effects at the wind farm. When turbines are aligned, front turbines are blocking the wind flow and downstream turbines are affected by more turbulent and less powerful wind. By moving the rotor of the front turbine slightly out of the main wind direction, the wake effect is deviated away from the downstream turbine, minimizing the wake energy losses across the wind farm, and increasing the energy production. UL is working with Siemens Gamesa by creating a tool to assess the benefits from this type of wake steering wind farm control strategy - so-called Wake Adapt - for onshore wind farms.
