We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PO218: Achieving bankability with LiDAR stand-alone - A common practice in Germany
Annika Baltzer, Expert Wind & Site Assessment, PAVANA GmbH
Abstract
LiDAR (Light Detecting and Ranging) plays an increasingly vital role in global wind resource assessments. In Germany, it has long surpassed traditional met masts for resource evaluation, yielding bankable results for years. However, in many other markets, acceptance of LiDAR stand-alone measurements remains a challenge. The advantages of LiDAR are evident: rapid and adaptable installation, reduced risk to people and the environment, suitability for hard-to-reach locations, and, notably, cost-efficiency compared to met masts. With Germany's extensive market presence and PAVANA GmbH's track record of over 150 bankable LiDAR stand-alone measurements, the question isn't whether LiDAR can be bankable, but what measures ensure its reliability. Calibration and verification are key, both before and after installation, comparing LiDAR data to met mast measurements for accuracy. Ongoing data monitoring and immediate response to issues are crucial, requiring a deep understanding of LiDAR operation and the availability of backup devices. Familiarity with the site, ideally through on-site visits, is also essential for dependable data. Extensive analysis of numerous measurements, their meticulous management, and the creation of bankable reports affirm the bankability of LiDAR stand-alone measurements.
