PO134: Adapting deep water energy management and storage technology for grid stability in offshore wind

Abstract
Achieving net-zero targets relies heavily on the effective integration of renewable energy sources like offshore wind. However, this integration poses challenges related to grid stability. Verlume has designed an innovative deep-water energy management and storage system, primarily aimed at decarbonizing subsea operations and aiding in carbon capture and storage. Building on this expertise, the company is now tailoring a Multi-MW hour shallow-water variant specifically for the offshore wind sector. This presentation will delve into the system's technical nuances, its adaptation for offshore wind applications, and its real-world deployment in a live European offshore wind farm. The focus will be on showcasing its capabilities not just for grid stabilisation but also for addressing various other use cases such as grid curtailment prevention.
