Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO074: Review of the site selection methods for floating offshore wind farms - Framework of planning approach

Krzysztof Szczepaniec, PhD Research at DkIT, Dundalk Institute of Technology

Abstract

Rising energy prices and emission reduction targets will put pressure on governments. The temptation to act quickly may lead to violating stakeholders' interests and devastate marine ecosystems. That may lead to a negative perception of society and opposition to certain investments. This paper is a critical review of the most recent developments in the field of Floating Offshore Wind Farm (FOWF) site selection and an attempt to indicate steps to overcome identified shortcomings. It summarizes the similarities, differences and possible shortcomings in the field. It also aims to find possible solutions and directions for further research. Creating good practices in the site selection and characterization for FOWF would bring many benefits to the industry including project risk limitation, financial risk mitigation and a speed up the development process. It would also enable direct comparison of various sites, even in distanced regions. The process would be also transparent therefore it would prevent potential conflict with sea users and stakeholders.
