Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in the academic community. We look forward to seeing you there!

PO032: Floating Offshore Wind: an example of Environmental Management Plan focused on protect and promote biodiversity, fishing resources and other uses.

Ane Ugena, Degree on Environmental Science, Saitec Offshore Technologies

Abstract

The development of Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) power has become an essential component in the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. Its relevance lies in its ability to harness unexplored offshore wind resources, offering a crucial alternative to tackle carbon emissions and meet growing global energy demand. In line with this development, Saitec has deployed its first full scale demonstrator project. DemoSATH is a 2 MW single FOW energy platform pilot connected to the grid in Spain which has been installed at BiMEP, an offshore infrastructure for prototype testing in real sea conditions, that obtained a favorable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in May 2018 for the testing of offshore wind devices. Following the requirements of this EIS requirements, BiMEP has developed an Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP), which represents a framework for other future FOW projects that will be installed in BiMEP infrastructure. In this context, Saitec has also defined its own EMP, tailored to the specific conditions and needs of the DemoSATH, and considering all stakeholders concerned by the FOW development at different regional levels. Since the demonstrator is located within the ES0000490 Marine Space of the Mundaka-Cape of Ogoño, being this a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), DemoSATH EMP is focused on monitoring presence and impacts on birds, cetaceans, bats, elasmobranchs and bony fishes, the benthic communities and communities attached to the infrastructure. Additionally, it has been included other works to test Nature-Based Solutions, designed to boost multi-trophic biodiversity, and provide examples of sustainable offshore aquaculture and promotion of fishing resources in FOW.
